Kay (Carlson) Harberts

October 23, 1946 — October 28, 2012

Kay Harberts, of Dawson, died Sunday, October 28, 2012, at the Johnson Memorial Home in Dawson, at the age of 66.

Funeral service was Friday, November 2, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. at the First Presbyterian Church in Dawson with Pastor Herb Rotunda officiating; the scripture lessons were II Timothy 4:6-8, Gospel John 14: 1-4, and Matthew 6:19-21; organist, Jane Stoks accompanied the hymns ”Borning Cry” and “Amazing Grace” and soloist, De Lon Clarksean singing “Come to Jesus” and “In the Garden.”  Casketbearers were Kenny Erp, Lonny Schwartz, Justin Athey, Dan Willis, Jerald Harberts, Shawn Carlson and the honorary were all her grandchildren and great grandchild.  Interment was in the Dawson Cemetery.

Visitation was at the Hanson & Dahl Funeral Home in Dawson on Thursday from 5:00-7:00 PM, with a prayer service at 7:00 PM.

Kay Marie (Carlson) Harberts was born on October 23, 1946 in Clinton, MN to Victor and Jennie (Cooper) Carlson. She was baptized and confirmed at the Evangelical United Bretheren Church in Big Stone City, SD, attended Big Stone Public Schools and graduated from Big Stone City High School in 1964. On August 30, 1974 she as united in marriage to Douglas Harberts in Watertown, SD. She worked at a number of locations including Plew’s Manufacturing in Granite Falls, MN, Dawson Knitting, Food and Fuel in Dawson, did day care, worked at the Madison Lutheran Home, at Johnson Memorial Home and at Dawson ICF-MR before she had to retire due to health issues.  She was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Dawson, where she taught Sunday School and Bible School, was a member of a ladies circle and had worked as a custodian at the church. She enjoyed reading, flower growing and gardening, playing scratch games, camping and loved music.  She loved to bake and cook.  She also loved to have her kids and grandkids come and enjoy a house full of noise and laughter. She became a resident at Johnson Memorial Care center in February of 2012, here she enjoyed the activities, especially playing bingo.

Kay is survived by her husband, Douglas; five children: Todd (Carla) Petersen of Stewart, MN; Tami (Chad) Tilbury of Madison, MN; Lisa (Tony) Cremers of Buffalo, MN; Laura (Adam) Eckstrom of Hanley Falls, MN and Jodi (Jason) Hansen of Canby, MN; fourteen grandchildren: Lacey, Kasjen, Krystal, Jen and Sheridan, Josie, Kelli, Jacob, Addyson, Billy, Austin, Kolin, Carter, Joshua and Johanna; a great grandson, Griffin; five brothers: Gary (Marilyn) Carlson of Ortonville, MN; Ronald (Deb) Carlson of St. Cloud, MN; Gerald (Pam) Carlson of Big Stone City, SD; Rick (Angela) Carlson of Groton, SD and Dan (Kim) Carlson of Big Stone City, MN; a sister, Julie Wiese (and friend Mike Reiffenberger) of Big Stone City, SD; eight sisters-in-law, two brothers-in-law and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Kay was preceded in death by her mother and father, her mother and father-in-law, two sisters-in-law and three brothers-in-law.
