Keith Winge, of Dawson, died Friday afternoon, March 18, 2011, at the Johnson Memorial Care Center in Dawson, at the age of 86. Visitation: Saturday, March 26 for one hour prior to the service at the Johnson Memorial Home Chapel. Memorial service: 2:00 PM, Saturday, March 26, at the Johnson Memorial Chapel with Pastor Keith Long officiating; grandson, Daniel Winge gave a personal eulogy; "On Eagle's Wings" and "How Great Thou Art" were accompanied by Chris Lehne; and grandson, Daniel Winge served as urn bearer. Interment was in Grace Lutheran Cemetery with military honors by Strand-Saboe VFW Post and the Oscar Lee American Legion Post of Dawson. Keith Eugene Winge was born on January 15, 1925, in Fairfax, MN, to Peter and Nettie (Lee) Winge. He was baptized at Fairfax and after the family moved to Dawson, was later confirmed at Grace Lutheran Church. He attended and graduated from Dawson High School and went on to the Minnesota School of Banking in Minneapolis. Keith served his country from October of 1943 to March of 1946 during WW II and from January of 1951 to October of 1952 during the Korean Conflict. Between the wars in November of 1942, Keith was hospitalized for an appendicitis, where his nurse was Bernice Bodtker. They were married on July 28, 1946, in Florence, SD, by Pastor P.O. Wee. They adopted son, James on April 23, 1954, and their son, Paul was born on April 23, 1956, but died on June 20, 1956. On August 5, 1958, they adopted son, Thomas. Keith was bank President that brought them to the communities of Dawson, Sauk Rapids, Elk Point, SD. After retirement, they returned to Dawson in 1994, when they moved into Golf View Apartments. After Bernice died on August 1, 2002, Keith remained in the apartment until his health started to fail in January of 2009, when he moved into the Madison Lutheran Home. In February of 2009, he moved to the Johnson Memorial Care Center where he remained until his death on Friday afternoon, March 18, 2011, at the age of 86 years, 2 months and 3 days. Keith was active in the communities they lived in by being a member of the VFW, American Legion and Lions Clubs. He also enjoyed golfing, spending time with his grandchildren and the art of conversation. He is survived by one son, Tom Winge of Kingsley, Iowa; 5 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren: Krissa (Jessie) Savercool and their children, Katie, Jessie, Brady, Christopher, Marina and Kali; Daniel (Robyn) Winge and their children, Trey, Devon, Kacey, Trenton, Thomas and Olivia; Paige Winge; Lisa (Brent) Hays and their children, Ivy and Dakota; and Maurice (Ashely) Erickson and their children, Nova, Paris and Evan; brother, Leland (Judy) Winge of Montevideo and sister, Shirley Thompson of Montevideo; other family and friends. Preceding him in death were his parents; wife, Bernice; sons: Paul and James; and brothers: Lyle and Phillip. Blessed be his memory.
