Kermit died Saturday, March 10, 2012 at Sanford Health Care in Sioux Falls, SD at the age of 81.

Funeral service was on Wednesday, March 14, 2012 at 11:00 AM at Providence Valley Lutheran Church, rural Dawson with Pastor Kendall Stelter and James Hahn officiating; Pastor Kendall gave a short greeting; son, David gave a personal eulogy; grandson, John Lund read scripture lesson, John 10:14-17; Jim Hahn gave the sermon; and organist, Mavis Hutt accompanied Dennis Hoyles in singing “How Great Thou Art” and the congregation in singing “Children of the Heavenly Father and “The Old Rugged Cross.”  Honorary casketbearers were Emil Larson, Jr. And Harris Dahl and all the grandchildren were active.  Interment was in the church cemetery with military honors by a 3 member honor guard from the active military from Minneapolis, VFW Post 5247 of Dawson, and Dennis Hoyles playing “Taps.”

Visitation was Tuesday from 5-7:00 PM with a prayer service at 6:30 PM at the funeral home.

Kermit Ordell Lund was born, November 11, 1930, in Providence Township of Lac qui Parle County, to Marvin S. and Violet E. (Swenson) Lund.  He was baptized and confirmed at Providence Valley Lutheran Church.  He attended country school and graduated from Dawson High School in 1948.  After high school, he spent time working on his father’s farm and lumber jacking in northern Minnesota.  Following the out break of the Korean War, Kermit enlisted in the US Army in 1951.  Following basic training in Hawaii, he was sent to Korea where he was transferred to the 5th Army Signal Corp Co K.  After a year in Korea, he spent the rest of his enlistment in Georgia and Germany.

Following his military service, he returned to the family farm and married Phyllis Wahlstrom on September 18, 1955.  Kermit, with his brother Cordell, did custom silage cutting and silo filling for many of the neighbors in the 1950's and 60's.  He also sold Northrup King seed with Ralph Windingstad during that same time.  In 1972, they moved to the home farm, where he milked cows until his retirement in 1992.  Kermit was a lifelong member of Providence Valley Lutheran Church and a lifetime member of VFW Post 5247 in Dawson.  He was an avid reader, put together many puzzles, and spent many hours with family, friends and neighbors in his passion for fishing and hunting.

Kermit is survived by his wife, Phyllis; five children: David (Mary) Lund of Buffalo, MN, Karen (Neal) Senst of Cross Lake, MN, Bruce (Jeannette) Lund of Dawson, MN, Stephen (Andrea) Lund of Buffalo, MN, and Daniel (Jessica) Lund of Owings, MD; fifteen grandchildren: Adam (Bethany), Matt (Elizabeth Johnson), and Mike (Tiffany) Lund, Alex, Kati, Josh, and Zachary Senst, Britta (David Willenbring), John, and Ryan Lund, Dillon McDowell, Danelle and Samuel Lund, Heather and Amber Lund; a sister, Mercedes Johnson of Delano, MN, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his favorite uncle, John; a brother, Cordell; and a sister, Marlene Nelson.
