Kermit Teig, 82, of Montevideo died October 14, 2000 at Chippewa County - Montevideo Hospital in Montevideo.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 18, 2000 at 10:30 A.M. at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Montevideo with  Rev. Warren Broughton and Rev. Douglas Olson officiating.   Burial will be in the Lakefield Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, afternoon and evening at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo with the family present from 6-8:00 P.M.

Kermit Clifford Teig was born February 6, 1918 in Belmont Township of Jackson County, MN the son of   Paul and Gertie (Erickson) Teig.  When he was three years old his mother died and he went to live with his grandmother and four of her children.  He was baptized and confirmed at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Lakefield and he graduated from Lakefield High School in 1935.  He entered the US Army on March 20, 1942 and served in the Pacific Theater during WWII.  He was discharged on October 14, 1945 and  was united in marriage with Dorothy Birkland June 5, 1946 in Lakefield.  They farmed for 12 years before moving to Montevideo, MN in 1959.  They owned and operated Teig’s Book Center until 1970.  Kermit worked at Larson Hardware, Monte Hardware Hank and the Montevideo Public Library. Kermit was Treasurer of  Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Lakefield and served as a Deacon at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Montevideo.  He was a member of American Legion Post #59 and every Tuesday joined with WWII veterans for coffee fellowship at the Montevideo American Legion.

He is survived by three children: Gerald Teig and his wife Diane of Landenberg, PA, Lois Nordby of Montevideo, MN, and Philip Teig and his wife Janell of Granite Falls, MN; three grandchildren: Heather, Holly, and Amanda Teig of Landenberg, PA; and cousins, and friends.

Preceding him in death were his wife Dorothy in 1998; his parents; and three half-brothers: Clinton, Marvin and Richard Teig.
