Larry Tanhoff

Larry Tanhoff, Montevideo passed away on Monday, July 20, 2020 at Home Front Rosewood at the age of 77.

Memorial  graveside services will be held on Monday, July 27, 2020 at 10:30AM at Sunset Memorial Cemetery in Montevideo with the Rev. Sam Kautz officiating.  Family and friends are asked to bring their own lawn chairs for the service.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 26, 2020 from 4 to 7 PM at Anderson-TeBeest Funeral Home in Montevideo. There will be a prayer service beginning at 6:45 PM.   Social distancing will be observed and masks are required.  Persons who do not wish to come into the building should drive up to the front of the funeral home for a greeting.


Larry Roy Tanhoff was born in Montevideo to Cleon LeRoy “Bob” and Faye Naomi (Ward) Tanhoff on May 9, 1943.  He would grow up in Montevideo and attend Montevideo High School graduating in 1961.  In high school Larry was well known for his athletic abilities especially in football and track.  He has held numerous school records in both sports.  Following high school he attended Concordia College in Moorhead for one year and then returned to Montevideo.  Larry was a land and tile surveyor all his life working for Chamberlain Engineering, Bonnema Surveyors and the Chippewa County Highway Department. Larry also served in the Minnesota National Guard from 1965 to 1971.   On September 19, 1981 Larry married Kristy Rae Bue at Clarkfield Lutheran Chuch.  They had three children: Laura, William and Micheal.

Larry was a member of United Methodist Church in Montevideo.  He was a member of the Montevideo American Legion serving at one time as a board member. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching races and eating ice cream.   He was inducted into the Montevideo High School Athletic Hall of fame in 2017.  He continued to take an interest in sports especially football and track and enjoyed watching and attended a few games for the Minnesota Twins and Minnesota Vikings.    Family cherishes the many fishing, hunting, and camping adventures they had with Larry.  Larry was a wonderful husband, father, brother and friend who was always there for his family and freinds.

Larry is survived by his wife, Kristy; his children: Laura (Robert) Sayre, Montevideo, William “Bill” Tanhoff, Madison, Micheal (Kayla) Tanhoff, West Fargo, ND; grandchildren: David, Allison, Olivia, Adalynn; brother Loren Tanhoff, Watson, as well as other extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents Cleon  and Faye; and nephew, Mark Tanhoff.
