Larry Youngs

Larry Youngs, of Alexandria and formerly of Montevideo, died on Friday, January 16, 2009 at the Chippewa Co - Montevideo Hospital in Montevideo at the age of 70. Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, January 21, 2009 at 1:30 P.M. at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Montevideo with Rev. Donald S. McKee officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday afternoon and evening with the family present from 5 - 7 PM and with a prayer service at 6:30 PM at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo. Larry Duane Youngs was born on February 2, 1938 in Renville, MN to Lawrence and Martha (Hoff) Youngs. He was baptized and confirmed at the United Methodist Church of Renville and graduated from Renville High School in 1956. He served in the US Air Force for four years, serving in Canada and California. On October 24, 1959 he was united in marriage to Jacquelyn Leuk in Sacred Heart, MN. He worked for NSP for a short time in Granite Falls and began working as an agent for MSI in Willmar, MN. After about a year in Willmar, they moved to Montevideo, where he sold insurance for MSI and sold real estate before retiring in 2003. In 2005 he moved to a lake location near Alexandria. He was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Montevideo and had been a member of Lions, Pheasants Forever, Ducks Unlimited, Fiesta Board and the MSI President's Club. He enjoyed the out of doors, especially hunting, fishing camping and traveling. He was very artistic, making drawings, carvings and mechanical devices. He was a real people person, especially enjoying visiting with people and teasing his grandchildren. Larry is survived by his three children: Jeff (and Julie) Youngs of Paynesville, MN; Steve (and Andrea) Youngs of Moose Lake, MN and Pam (and Rod) Voorhees of Montevideo; ten grandchildren: Ashley and Andrew Youngs; Adam, Kayla and Ben Youngs; Jordan and Tristan Voorhees; and Samantha, Zachary and Elijah Youngs; a sister Jackie (and Dan) Mulder of Renville, MN; a brother Mike (and Vonnie) Youngs of Marshall, MN; a very special friend Jan Bresson of Battle Lake, MN as well as by a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and parents-in-law and by his wife Jacquelyn in 1989.
