Laura K. (Kvaal) Flaa

Laura K. (Kvaal) Flaa was born January 29, 1923 in Cerro Gordo Township, Lac qui Parle County, MN the daughter of Arnt and Anna (Blokhus) Kvaal.  Laura was baptized and confirmed at Lac qui Parle Lutheran Church.  She graduated from Dawson High School and received teachers training in Madison.  Laura taught rural school for several years.  She worked as a cook for Jack McIntosh at the Nursing Home in Dawson and later cooked at Trailways Restaurant in Montevideo.  She also worked at the Carlson Doll Factory near Milan, MN.

She was united in marriage with Irving Flaa on March 27, 1943.  To this union four children were born.  Laura enjoyed cooking and baking and was excellent at both.  After moving from the farm to Montevideo in 1984, Laura became very active in Senior Citizens Organizations.  She was proud to have been chosen Senior Citizen Ambassador for Fiesta Days and also the many awards and certificates she received for her work with the Senior Citizens.  In earlier years, Laura was active in her church serving as Sunday School teacher, Ladies Aid work, and on various church boards.

Laura especially enjoyed traveling to several states, country music concerts including the Statler Brothers, and various bus trips.  She spent many hours watching Minnesota Twins Baseball.  She moved to the Madison Lutheran Home in September of 1999 and to the Johnson Memorial Home in Dawson in March of 2007.

She is survived by two children: Jean (Cliff) Mogard and Kenneth Flaa both of Dawson; six grandchildren: Scott (Christi) Pederson, Michael (Michelle Bungarden) Pederson, Aaron Flaa, Jodi  Flaa, Nathan Flaa, and Jill Flaa; two step-grandchildren: Lori Mogard and Michael Mogard; and great-grandchildren: Jacob Pederson, Annika Pederson, Samantha Flaa, and Jacob Bungarden.

Preceding her in death were her parents; two sons: Donald and David Flaa; three sisters: Alice Farmen, Lucille Haugen, and Dolores LaFave; and two brothers: Melvin who died in infancy and Ingvald Kvaal.
