Laura Mork

Laura Mork, of Dawson, died on Monday, August 4, 2008 at the Johnson Memorial Hospital in Dawson at the age of 98. Funeral Services will be conducted on Thursday, August 7, 2008 at 1:30 P.M. at Our Saviours Lutheran Church of Baxter with Rev. Theresa Kraft and Rev Richard Mork officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the church. Laura Elise (Vellekson) Mork was born on August 1, 1910 in Lac qui Parle Village to Jacob and Susanne Vellekson. She was baptized and confirmed at Our Saviours Lutheran Church of Baxter and attended school in Lac qui Parle Village. She worked at Anderson's Clothing and Jeb's Cafe in Montevideo. On October 17, 1953 she was united in marriage to Arthur Mork on the farm of one of her family. They lived on his home farm in Hamlin Township for many years before moving to Montevideo in 1965. They lived in Montevideo and Dawson. For the past several months she has been a resident at Johnson Memorial Home in Dawson. For over 30 years they also had a home and wintered in Riverside, CA. She was a life-long member of Our Saviours Lutheran Church of Baxter. She was active in the Gudbrandsdalslaget, Sognelag and the Lac qui Parle Co. Historical Society. She enjoyed knitting crocheting, handwork and especially visiting and socializing. With her husband Art she was a supporter of Luther College, where he graduated in 1924. She is survived by a nephew, Oren Vellekson of Montevideo; 3 nieces: Karen (and Tom) Wickie of Windom, MN; Carol (and Dale) Tilden of New Brighton, MN and Diane (and Jim) Mauch of Hankinson, ND; a number of great nieces and nephews, as well as by many other relatives and friends, including Simen "Simon" Flyen from Eidsvoll, Norway, who lived with Art and Laura while attending Montevideo High School in the 1960's. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Arthur in 2007, 3 brothers: Oliver, Louie and William Vellekson and by a sister Esther and by a sister in infancy.
