Laverne Mae (Vollmer) Van Horn

June 3, 1929 — December 31, 2014

LaVerne Van Horn, of Montevideo, died on Wednesday, December 31, 2014 at the Luther Haven Nursing Home at the age of 85.

Funeral services will be conducted on Friday,January 2, 2014 at 1:30 P.M. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Montevideo with Rev. Christopher Lieske officiating.  Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Cemetery.

Visitation will be one hour before the service on Friday at the church.

LaVerne (Vollmer) Van Horn was born June 3, 1929 to Fred and Edna (Platow)Vollmer in Moyer Township in Swift County.  She attended school in Holloway and graduated from Holloway in 1947.  She married Lynn Van Horn December 7, 1947.  They had twin boys, Brian and Bruce, and another son David.  LaVerne was a one room school teacher before working at Woolworth’s, Ben Franklin and later for Control Data in Montevideo.  She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.  LaVerne loved to make quilts for family and friends and spent time learning about different quilting patterns.  She even took classes in how to make Hawaiian  quilts.  LaVerne and Lynn also enjoyed traveling together to Australia, Hawaii and New Zealand.  They wintered for a number of years in Brownsville, Texas.  She especially enjoyed fishing with her family.

LaVerne is survived by her children: Brian (Judy) of Alexandria, MN and David (Peggy) of St. John, ND; four grandchildren: Randy (Trish) of Osseo, MN, Jeffrey (Jayne) of Grand Rapids, MN, Marcy (Duane) Averill of Rochester, MN, and Monica (Jeff) Sandoval of Apple Valley, MN; great-grandchildren: Riley, Taryne, Catori, and Liviana; and sisters: Mavis Reikow of Bismark, ND and Bernice (Don) Case of Carlos, MN.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Lynn in 1993; a son, Bruce in 1970; a sister Melba Jagow; a brother-in-law, Carl Reikow.
