Mrs. Arthur (Lavina) Lien, of Montevideo, died on Saturday, April 23, 2005 at the Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo at the age of 90.
Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, April 28,2005 at 1:30 PM at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Montevideo with Rev. Greg Gabriel officiating. Interment will be in the Sunset Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday afternoon and evening, with the family from 6 - 7:30 PM and with a prayer service at 7:30 PM at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo.
Lavina Alice (Schruth) Lien was born on April 2, 1915 in Frankfort Township near Pepin, WI to George and Alice (Biles) Schruth. She attended rural schools and graduated from high school in Pepin, WI in 1934. She attended the Brady and Rogers School for Beauticians and later the Bethesda Hospital School of Nursing, completing her training in 1941. She served in the US Navy during WWII and reached the rank of Lieutenant. On February 7, 1948 she was united in marriage to Arthur N. Lien at her home in Pepin, WI. They lived and farmed in rural Montevideo until 1979 when they moved to a home on 7th Street in Montevideo. She lived for a time at Brookside Manor in Montevideo and has been a resident of the Luther Haven Nursing Home since 2002. She was a long-time member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church, faithfully attending worship services, and involved in many aspects of the church, including Altar Guild. She was a member of the American Nurses Association and the Sons of Norway. Her interests included sewing, embroidery, cooking, gardening, re-finishing furniture and traveling in the U.S. and Canada. Her grandchildren were her true joy, especially when she baked cookies with them.
She is survived by one son, Donald Lien and his wife Beverly of Montevideo; three grandchildren: Brendan Lien and his fiancé Amanda Landmark, Carrie Johansson and her husband David and Kelly Lien; two brothers-in-law: Norval Lien and his wife Grace of Montevideo and Vernon Kaldor of Hillsboro, ND; two sisters-in-law: Alma Sheane and her husband Kenneth of Wellton, AZ and Loraine Lien of Montevideo; as well as by a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Arthur in 2003; four brothers-in-law: Selmer Lien, James Lien, Maynard Kaldor and Hartford Kompelien; two sisters-in-law: Clara Kaldor and Emma Lien; and a sister-in-law in infancy, Clara Eva Lien.
