LaVon M. Anderson, of Montevideo, died on Friday, May 7, 2010 at Valin Senior Care in Montevideo at the age of 96. Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, May 12, 2010 at 1:30 PM at Salem Lutheran Church in Montevideo with Rev. Ann Ward officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday afternoon and evening with the family present from 5 - 7 PM at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo. LaVon Marie (Thomas) Anderson was born on September 19, 1913 in Montevideo, MN to Frank and Helga (Sandell) Thomas. She grew up in Montevideo and attended Montevideo High School, where she was an accomplished basketball player. On June 17, 1934, she was united in marriage to Roger W. Anderson in Montevideo. She was involved in the family business, Anderson's Super Service, until they retired in 1976. Following retirement, they enjoyed the winter months at a home in Yuma, AZ and summer months on Lake Amelia in Minnesota. She has been living in Montevideo for a number of years and was most recently a resident at Valin Senior Care. She was a Gold Star Mother and also a member of Salem Lutheran Church, the American Legion Auxiliary, and the Rebekah Lodge. Her greatest passion was her family and their many activities. In her free time, she liked to bake, cook, and play cards. She is survived by three daughters: Marie (Floyd) Overby of Lafayette, CA, Joan Riley of Montevideo and Karen (David) King of Bucerias, Mexico; six grandchildren: Sara, Andrew and Paul Overby; Susan Collins; Roger Riley and Kristin Dellabalma; two great-grandchildren: Will and Elizabeth Collins; as well as by a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Roger in 1995; a son, Roger Anderson, Jr. in 1970; a grandson, Scott Riley; a brother, Frank Thomas; and seven sisters: Climene Gerfen, Florence Hanson, Evyline Thomas, Anita Huseby, Marion Wolfe, Mildred Thomas and Daphine Maier.
