Larry Suchanek, Sr., of Montevideo, died on Thursday, February 6, 2003 at the North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale at the age of 69.
Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted on Tuesday, February 11, 2003 at 1:30 P.M. at St. Josephs Catholic Church in Montevideo with Fr. Jim Devorak as the Celebrant.
Visitation will be Monday afternoon and evening, with the family from 5 - 7 PM with a prayer vigil at 7:00 PM at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo.
Lawrence “Larry” Frank Suchanek was born on August 19, 1933 in Minneapolis, MN to Frank and Pearl (Wassom) Suchanek. At the age of 11 he moved with his family to Olivia, MN, graduating from Olivia High School in 1951. On September 4, 1954 he was united in marriage to Mary Caye at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Olivia. They lived in Minneapolis, Winnebago, and Clara City, MN before moving to Montevideo in 1958. He did high line work for various contractors before starting with NSP on September 26, 1955. He worked for NSP for almost 35 years, retiring on March 31, 1990 as a Supervisor. He was a member of St. Josephs Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus and was a member of the Montevideo Fire Department for over 20 years. He enjoyed the outdoor sports of fishing, hunting and camping and enjoyed his lake home.
He is survived by his wife, Mary; four children: Larry Suchanek, Jr. and his wife Julie of Montevideo, Barbara White of Maple Grove, MN, Joseph Suchanek of Montevideo, and Philip Suchanek of San Diego, CA; four grandchildren: Zach and Garett Suchanek and Brian and Mallory White; as well as by two nephews: Frank Dahlman and Michael Olson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and two sisters: Margaret Olson and Lois Dahlman.
