Lela Margaret (Plant) Quenemoen

August 2, 1924 — February 1, 1998

Lela Margaret (Plant) Quenemoen was born on August 2, 1924, in Miles City, Montana to parents William and Margaret (Hammond) Plant.  She moved to Bryant Twp., Roberts Co., Browns Valley, MN, in 1927 at the age of 3.  She attended the South Bryant Rural Elementary School.  Lela was baptized at age 13, in 1937, at the Presbyterian Church in Sisseton, SD.  In 1938, she moved to Sisseton where she attended high school.
Lela married Francis Frey on July 3, 1943.  They had two daughters: Lois (Ken) Skoog and Linda (Jim) Stallman; and two step-sons: Ray Frey and Eddie Frey(deceased).
On December 17, 1968, Lela married Omar Quenemoen.  They lived in Aberdeen, SD, until 1985, when they moved to a farm site near the Lac Qui Parle dam near Dawson.  They lived there about one year when they moved to Dawson, where they have resided ever since.
Lela was a member of the VFW Auxiliary in Aberdeen, SD.  She enjoyed baking, gardening, playing cards, traveling and flea markets, and spending time with family and friends.
Lela died on Sunday, February 1, 1998, at the Browns Valley Health Center in Browns Valley, MN, at the age of 73 years, 5 months, and 29 days.
Lela is survived by her husband, Omar Quenemoen of Dawson; daughters: Lois (Ken) Skoog of Graceville, MN and Linda (Jim) Stallman of Browns Valley, MN; step-children: Ray (Pam) Frey of Minneapolis, David (Mary) Quenemoen of Maryville, TN, Marilyn Jansky and special friend, Alvin Wachmann, of Richmond, MN and Joyce (Jim) Johnson of Elk River, MN; 7 grandchildren, 11 step-grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and 23 step-great-grandchildren; brothers: William (Irene) Plant of Sisseston, SD and Herbert (Velva) Plant of Provo, SD; and sisters: Rosetta (Dawn) Nerison of Aberdeen, SD and Carol Nigg of Milbank, SD; sisters-in-law: Rhoda Vellekson, Josie Lindquist, and DeLaine (Lloyd) Lundy all of Dawson, Mabel Gruchow of Montevideo, Juella (Arnold) Johnson of Madison, Glenda Dvergsten of Watson, Marcelle Quenemoen of Alexandria, and Janet Ross of Monticello; and numerous other family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Mildred Koiman; step-sons: Eddie Frey and Pete Jansky; brother-in-law: Leo Nigg; 7 brothers-in-law: Martin, Henry, Lester, and Russell Quenemoen, Warren Lindquist, Louie Vellekson, Julian Dvergsten, and Harry Gruchow.
Visitation was held on Wednesday afternoon and evening with a prayer service at 7:00 at the Hanson & Dahl Funeral Home in Dawson.
