Lena (Gimmestad) Johnson

Lena Johnson, of Maynard, died on Wednesday, February 14, 2007 at the Chippewa County - Montevideo Hospital at the age of 91.  Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, February 19, 2007 at 1:30 PM at the Maynard Lutheran Church with Rev. Mary Leigh Boyd Hovland officiating.  Interment will be in the church cemetery.  Visitation will be Sunday afternoon and evening with the family being present from 2 - 4 PM and with a prayer service at 3:30 PM at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo.

Lena Inez (Gimmestad) Johnson was born on February 10, 1916 in Blue Earth County, MN to Jonas and Pernelle (Heggen) Gimmestad. She was baptized on March 12, 1916 in Frost, MN, confirmed on December 6, 1931 at Buffalo Lake Lutheran Church near DeGraff and attended rural schools in Chippewa County.  On July 27, 1941 she was united in marriage to Henry Johnson by Rev. John Mason in Montevideo.  She lived most of her life in the Montevideo/Maynard area and worked at the Olson Produce for a number of years.  She was a member of Maynard Lutheran Church and had been a Sunday School teacher, active in WELCA and in quilting.  She had also been a member of the See-n-Do Homemakers, the Green-Feather Whist Club and the Senior Citizens and Maynard Nutrition site.  She enjoyed gardening, playing cards, walking, listening to the radio and watching television..

She is survived by three children: Arnold Johnson and his wife Evelyn of Maynard, MN, Joyce McJunkin and her husband Richard of Charlottesville, VA and Larry Johnson of Maynard, MN; 11 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; 1 great, great grandchild as well as by a number of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Henry “Hank” in 1989; three brothers: Rudolph, Joseph and Selmer Gimmestad; and by two sisters: Emma Olson and Petra Macziewski.
