Lena Nordby, of Montevideo, died on Thursday, November 21, 2002 at the Luther Haven Nursing Home at the age of 93.
Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, November 25, 2002 at 1:30 PM at the First Congregational Church in Montevideo with Rev. Jean Boese officiating. Burial will be in the Sunset Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church.
Lena Alice (Capistrant) Nordby was born on February 2, 1909 in Ft. Ripley, MN to Christopher and Exrine (Duchesneau) Capistrant. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Matthias Catholic Church and attended rural schools. On October 27, 1927 she was united in marriage to Lester Nordby in Willmar, MN. They lived and farmed near Maynard, Everdell, Foxhome and Ft. Ripley before moving to the Montevideo area in 1946. They retired from farming in the early 1970's and lived in Nisswa, MN for a couple of years before returning to Montevideo. She has been a resident of the Luther Haven Nursing Home for the past 8 years. She was a member of the First Congregational Church and active in it’s women's groups and was a member of a sewing club. She enjoyed cooking, flower gardening, quilting, braiding rugs and fishing.
She is survived by two sons, LeRoy Nordby and his wife Harriet of Nisswa, MN and Merwyn Nordby and his wife Marlene of St. James, MN; 7 grandchildren: Lonnie (Judy) Nordby of Mesa, AZ; Louis (Debbie) Nordby of Nisswa, MN; Randy (Janae) Nordby of St. James, MN; Charlene Nordby of Loveland, CO; Hope (Kevin) Malmgren of St. James, MN; Nancy Nordby of Industry, TX and Scott (Erika) Nordby of Sartell, MN; 14 great grandchildren: Lucas Malmgren; Toby Walters; Matthew Nordby; Hattie Walters; Ryan Nordby; C.J. Nordby; Anthony Nordby; Nate Nordby; Jon Nordby; Ashley Nordby; Gregg Nordby; Joseph Nordby; Jasmine Nordby and Kaden Nordby; 3 brothers: Paul Capistrant of Auburn Heights, MI; Joseph Capistrant of Davison, MI and Maurice Capistrant of Staples, MN; as well as by numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Lester in 1979, by a son, Darrell in 1946, a great grandson, Matthew Walters as well as by 5 sisters and 4 brothers.
