Leo Borgendale

February 25, 1921 — July 8, 2014

Leo Borgendale, of Montevideo, died Tuesday, July 8, 2014 at the Chippewa - County Montevideo Hospital at the age of 93.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 12, 2014 at 2:00 PM at Trinity Lutheran Church in Montevideo with Rev. Kathy Skogland officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Cemetery in Montevideo.

Visitation will be held on Friday, July 11th from 5 - 8 PM at Trinity Lutheran Church in Montevideo and for one hour prior to services on Saturday.

Leo Burdeen Borgendale was born February 25, 1921 in Lac qui Parle Township the son of Lauritz and Othelia (Heieren) Borgendale. He was baptized in 1921 and confirmed in 1934 at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church of Baxter. Leo graduated from Montevideo High School in 1940. He was united in marriage with Brunhild Olson on May 27, 1945 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Montevideo. They made their home on a farm in Lac qui Parle Township where he was a dairy farmer before he retired. They moved to Montevideo in 1990.  He was a long-time member of Our Saviours Lutheran Church of Baxter and was currently a member of Trinity Lutheran Church where he was proud to be a Bible Buddy. He served on the Lac qui Parle Township Board, sang in the Fiesta City Chorus, and was active in the foster grandparent program. He enjoyed growing flowers, spending time with young people, singing, golfing, attending sporting events, musical events and playing cards. He was known as "Grandpa Leo" by many young children.

He is survived by a son, David (and Martina) Borgendale of Nuremberg, Germany; a daughter, Carol (and Dan) Lundberg of Forest Lake, MN; a daughter-in-law, Diane Borgendale of Montevideo; nine grandchildren: Tove (Zach Potchinsky) Borgendale-Potchinsky, Ariel Borgendale, Laura Borgendale, Anne Borgendale, Kevin Borgendale, Colleen Borgendale, Christopher (Natalie) Lundberg, Jonathan Lundberg, and Rachel Lundberg; 4 great-grandchildren: Aubryn Hauge, Levi Potchinsky, Tristan and Vera Lundberg; a sister, Adele (LeDell) Benson of Hopkins, MN; several nieces and nephews; and special friends and care-givers: Todd and Judy Hay.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Bru in 1999; a son, Jonathan in 2004; five sisters: Agnes Norem, Helen Aamot, Evelyn Anderson, Warena Behrens, and Delores Benson; and four brothers: Herbert, Leroy, Malcolm, and Bertram.
