Leola Mae (Lund) Nelson

May 27, 1928 — December 19, 2015

Leola Mae (Lund) Nelson was born May 27, 1928, in Hazel Run Township, Yellow Medicine County, Minnesota, the daughter of Ole and Laura (Enstad) Lund. She graduated from Granite Falls High School in 1946 and attended Normal Training in Madison. She taught rural school for a few years southeast of Granite Falls. Leola was united in marriage with J. Douglas Nelson on August 1, 1953, at Granite Falls Lutheran Church. They lived in Granite Falls and Clarkfield briefly before moving to their farm west of Granite Falls in 1955. They moved into Granite Falls in 1985. Leola enjoyed Homemakers and was very active at Bergen Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School and participated in Circle. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, gardening, baking, and cooking. She treasured time spent with her family and friends.

Leola died Saturday, December 19, 2015, at the Granite Falls Manor at the age of 87.

She is survived by her husband, Doug; three sons: Jon (Linda) Nelson of Marshall, Minnesota, Jerry Nelson of Granite Falls, Minnesota, and Leslie Nelson of Granite Falls, Minnesota; five grandchildren: Amanda (John) Herring, John "J.P." (Erin) Nelson, Eva (Matthieu) Poyet, Camille Nelson, and Theodore Nelson; four great-grandchildren: Thomas Herring, Samuel Herring, Amara Nelson, and Sarah Nelson; a sister, Arlene Miller of Tucson, Arizona; and nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her parents; brothers-in-law: Harold Bohlman and Dennis Miller; and a nephew, Randy Miller.
