Leon Wayne Hauge was born on August 21, 1946 in Slayton, MN to Howard and Nina (Holmes) Hauge. He was baptized and confirmed at First Methodist Church in Slayton.    He attended school in Slayton and graduated in 1964.  He entered the United States Army and served in Vietnam in 1967.  Following his discharge from the service he would eventually go to Jackson, MN and attend the Vo-Tech for the Electrician program.  He met Hattie Posey and they were married on July 10, 1971. They had one child together, Jennifer.  Leon opened his own business as Hauge Electric after working for a time for Bowman Electrical and Molde’s Electric.   He enjoyed being his own boss and would eventually earn his master electrician contractors license.  Leon also worked for M.T.I. in Montevideo from 1981 to 2009.

Growing up Leon enjoyed hunting and fishing.  His love of cars was very apparent as he had 27 cars by age 21.  He could tell you at the drop of a hat what kind of car was passing by.  Leon enjoyed a cup of coffee many times a day with many friends.  Family remembers that he just “loved eating”. Sharing a roll or a meal with friends was something that Leon would do very often and would love the food and the company.   He will be remembered for his love to meet new people and would visit with anyone and everyone.  If you lived in Montevideo or the surrounding area you probably had visited with Leon a time a two.  Leon had lots of friends and never met a stranger. He never complained no matter what his circumstances.   He was always happy, friendly and enthusiastic and loved to give people a hard time.  He enjoyed giving people nicknames and sharing Casey doughnuts and McDonald’s coffee with his friends.

Leon is survived by his 1937 Chevy; wife, Hattie; his daughter, Jennifer; sister, Frances Byrd, Burbank, CA and other extended family and many friends.

Preceding him in death were his parents; sister, Darlene Giesen; father and mother in-law: Seth and Olive Posey; in-laws: Tom Byrd, Bob Giesen, and Grace (John) Roark; numerous aunts and uncles; and a nephew, Danny Giesen.

Blessed by his memory.
