Leona Irene (Starr) Thompson

Leona Thompson, of Milan, died on Wednesday, February 18, 2004 at the Madison Lutheran Home at the age of 88.

Funeral services were conducted on Saturday, February 21, 2004 at 3:00 PM at Kviteseid Lutheran Church in Milan with Rev. Trevor Bailey officiating.  Interment was in the Kviteseid Lutheran Milan Methodist Cemetery.

Leona Irene (Starr) Thompson was born on February 3, 1916, in Des Moines, IA to Ralph Waldo and Asenath (Vader) Starr.  She grew up in Windom, MN and attended Windom Schools. On January 26, 1936, she was united in marriage to George Thompson in Des Moines, Iowa.   They lived in Windom until 1943 and after living in several towns in southern Minnesota, lived in Henning, MN from 1946 - 1957.  They again lived in several towns before moving to Milan, MN in 1960.  She has been a resident of the Madison Lutheran Home for the past two years.  She was an active member of Kviteseid Lutheran Church, it’s women’s groups and helped with the hardangar on the altar.  She enjoyed hardangar, sewing, reading, nature, deer watching, camping and fishing.

She is survived by sons: Bill Starr and his wife Joyce of Santa Maria, CA; Delwyn Thompson of Montevideo, Gary Thompson and his wife Jan of Luttrell, TN, David Thompson of Milan; Bob Thompson and his wife Luana of Rosemount, MN; Jon Thompson and his wife Cindy of Minneapolis, Micheal Thompson and his wife Nancy  of Lebanon, OR, and Gregg  Thompson and his wife Laurie of Sioux Falls, SD; 24 grandchildren; and 20 great grandchildren; a sister, Leta Zwolinski of San Diego, CA; a brother, Wayne Starr of Battle Lake, MN as well as by several nieces and nephews..

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband George in 1997; two sons, Donald and Victor Thompson; a daughter, Mary Jo Thompson; a grandson, Justin Thompson; a granddaughter Sarah Thompson and a brother, Robert Starr.
