Leonard Nickel of Montevideo died Tuesday, November 30, 2010 at the St. Cloud Hospital at the age of 73. Funeral service will be held Saturday, December 4, 2010 at 10:30 A.M. at Chapel Hill Funeral Home in Sioux Falls, SD with Rev. Robert Moeller officiating. Interment will be in Hills of Rest Memorial Park in Sioux Falls. Visitation will be for one hour before the services. Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo is in charge of the arrangements. Leonard Ernest Nickel was born on November 1, 1937 in Hope, ND to Ernest and Grace (Toepke) Nickel. He attended school in Glen Ullin, ND. He served in the U.S. Air Force. He lived in Yankton, SD, Sioux Falls, SD and most recently in Montevideo, MN. He had been employed by the Argus Leader in Sioux Falls. He enjoyed attending auctions, fishing, camping, gambling, bowling and going to the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. He is survived by two children: Tamara Wright of Sioux Falls, SD and Thomas Nickel of Montevideo, MN; eight grandchildren; one great grandchild; and a brother, Kenneth Nickel of East Northport, NY. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Dorothy Boland.
