Leonard “Len” Swenson, of Montevideo, died Saturday, January 13, 2007 at Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo at the age of 97.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 17, 2007 at 2:00 PM at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Montevideo with Rev. Donald S. McKee officiating. Interment will be in Terrace Lawn Memory Gardens.
Visitation will be Tuesday afternoon and evening and with the family present from 4 - 6 PM at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo.
Leonard Ellsworth Swenson was born May 5, 1909 in Rosewood Township, Chippewa County, MN the son of Lorenths and Mathilda (Haugen) Swenson. He was baptized at Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Watson, and confirmed there August 24, 1924. Len attended school in District #24 and a member of the Minnesota State Guard from 1944-7. He was united in marriage with Louise Eichhorst November 27, 1959 at the Our Saviors Lutheran Church Chapel in Montevideo. He worked as an auto mechanic doing Chrysler auto repair for Bill Weber, J.L. Johnson, and Monte Motors before retiring in 1974. Len was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church and a past member of MN Valley Steam Threshers Association, Monte Rod & Gun Club, and the Chippewa County Historical Society. He was active in competitive target shooting from the 1940's-60's and won many local and regional awards.
He is survived by two sons: Dan Swenson and his wife Betty of Meriden, ID and Scott Swenson of Robbinsdale, MN; two grandchildren: Christopher and Stephanie Swenson; one sister, Ruth Norman of Montevideo, MN and nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Louise on November 30, 2000; four brothers: Maurice, Ray, and Art Swenson and one in infancy and one sister, Cora Peterson.
