Leone Ardelle (Sumner) Grinager

April 8, 1931 — June 8, 2016

Leone Ardelle Grinager, of Brooklyn Center and formerly of Dawson, died Wednesday, June 8, 2016 at Park Nicollet Methodist Hospital in St. Louis Park at the age of 85.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 13, 2016 at 1:00 PM at First Presbyterian Church in Dawson with Rev. Herbert Rotunda officiating.  Burial will be in the Boyd Cemetery.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church.  Arrangements with Hanson & Dahl Funeral Home.

Leone Ardelle (Sumner) Grinager was born in Maxwell Township of Lac qui Parle County, MN on April 8, 1931 to Perry and Mamie (Frazier) Sumner.  She was baptized and confirmed at the Presbyterian Church in Dawson.  She attended rural school near Boyd and later attended high school in Morris.

Leone married Benford Grinager on November 8, 1949 on the family farm.  They lived in Southern Minnesota, Texas, Los Angeles, Boyd and Dawson before moving to Plymouth, MN in 1967.  They had one son, Byron.  Leone worked as a waitress for many years.  She retired shortly after moving to Brooklyn Center in 1995.

Leone loved being a grandmother and great-grandmother and enjoyed being with her family.  She also enjoyed puzzles, needlepoint, crocheting, and watching TV.  Family remembers that Leone also spent her time cooking and gardening, especially canning pickles.

Leone is survived by her son, Byron (Diane) of Brooklyn Center; two granddaughters: Stacy (Patrick) Jeffrey of South St. Paul and Becky (Cory) Veeck of Monticello; five great-grandchildren: Justyn, Molly, Collin, Kieran, and Abiageal: and  her brother: Harold (Marcella) Sumner of Boyd, MN.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Benford in 1987;  sisters: Gladys Sorenson and Verlan Sumner; and three brothers: Merril, Kenneth and Glenn Sumner.
