Leonella Nelson, formerly of Montevideo, died on Saturday, December 2, 2000 in Wichita, KS at the age of 86.
Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted on Wednesday, December 6, 2000 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Montevideo with Fr. Jim Devorak the celebrant. Visitation will be held for one hour before services at the church. Interment will be in the Sunset Memorial Cemetery in Montevideo.
Leonella Mary (Mellenbach) Nelson was born on April 15, 1914 in Hoven, South Dakota to Nicholas and Mary (Abler) Mellenbach. She was baptized and confirmed in Hoven, SD and attended schools in Gettysburg, SD. On January 4, 1944 she was united in marriage to Charles A. Nelson in Montevideo. She worked as a cook at St. Joseph School and various restaurants before retiring in 1976. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and St. Joesph Guild in Montevideo. In 1991 she moved to Augusta, KS and had currently been a resident at the Manor Care Home in Wichita, KS.
She is survived by one son, Leon Nelson and his wife Betty of Brooklyn Park, MN; one daughter, Phyllis Winn of Andover, KS; five grandchildren: Barb Trekell, Bonnie Maree, James Verkinderen, Scott Nelson, and Tammy Nelson; seven great-grandchildren: Tasha, Denae, Monica, Mathew, Melissa, Morgan and Drew; one great-great-granddaughter, Jordan; and two sisters: Mildred Kaiser of Hoven, SD and Regina Hericks of Gettysburg, SD.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charles in 1979; a twin brother, Leon Mellenbach; and one son-in-law, Ray Winn.
Memorials preferred to Hospice.
