Leroy Goodroad, of Granite Falls, died on Wednesday, September 1, 2004 at the Granite Manor in Granite Falls, MN at the age of 83.
Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, September 4, 2004 at 2:00 PM at Saron Lutheran Church of rural Montevideo with Rev. Charlie Bunk officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be prior to services at the church. Anderson Funeral Home of Montevideo is in charge of funeral arrangements.
Leroy E. Goodroad was born on January 8, 1921 in Brookings, SD to W. Richard and Anna M. (Buntrock) Goodroad He grew up in Eastern South Dakota, was baptized at Grace Lutheran Church in Watertown, SD and attended schools in Estelline, SD. On July 10, 1942 he was united in marriage to Margaret Monson in rural Lily, SD. Following Margaret’s death in 1990, he was united in marriage to Helen Ostrander on December 7, 1991 in Watertown, SD. He lived in South Dakota until moving to Dawson, MN in 1959 and to a farm near Granite Falls in 1969. He cut lumber and logged the Minnesota River Valley for a number of years and worked for Rogers Hydraulics for over 20 years before retiring in 1984. He was a member of Saron Lutheran Church of rural Montevideo. He enjoyed boating and fishing, gardening, animals, playing guitar and singing. He was currently a resident of the Granite Manor in Granite Falls. He was the youngest of 11 children and the youngest of 80 grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Helen; two daughters: Annice Wichelmann and her husband Wilmer and Joan Cousins and her husband Robert, both of Norwood Young America, MN; four sons: David Goodroad and his wife Inger of Downingtown, PA, Lewis Goodroad and his wife Debra of Griffin, GA, Warren Goodroad and his wife Karen of Minnetonka, MN and Larry Goodroad and his wife Kari of Holt, MO; two step-children: Connie Mausback and her husband Maurice of Vienna, VA and Murial Behrens and her husband Jerry of Cody, WY; 23 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; a sister, Bernice Nettleton of White Bear Lake, MN; a sister-in-law, Sally Goodroad of Roseville, MN; as well as by numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Margaret in 1990; eight brothers; and one sister.
