Lila Nelson, of Montevideo, died on Wednesday, June 27, 2001 at the Luther Haven Nursing Home at the age of 91.
Funeral services were conducted on Friday, June 29, 2001 at 1:30 PM at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Montevideo with Rev. Warren Broughton officiating. Burial was in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery of rural Watson, MN.
Lila (Simpson) Nelson was born on May 13, 1910 in Tunsberg Township of Chippewa County, MN to Samuel and Anna (Vellekson) Simpson. She was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church and attended rural school district #28. On June 29, 1940 she was united in marriage to Arvid Nelson. She worked at area restaurants and at Tomes Grocery in Watson. She was a long time member of Zion Lutheran Church, it’s Ladies Aid, was a Sunday School teacher, and a member of the Zion Restoration Society. She was currently a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. She enjoyed cooking, trying new recipes and handiwork. She lived near Watson on her home farm for many years and was currently a resident of the Luther Haven Nursing Home.
She is survived by one son, Roger Nelson and his wife Pauline of Granite Falls, MN; three grandchildren: Steven Nelson and his wife Brenda of San Diego, CA, Michael Nelson and his wife Jenny of Salt Lake City, UT, and Jodi Nelson and her fiancé Aric Baier of San Diego, CA; five great-grandchildren: Matthew, Jordan, Nicholas and Rebecca Nelson and Tyler Hurst; two sisters: Ruby Anderson and Frances Gilsrud of Montevideo, MN; as well as by a number of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Arvid in 1958; an infant daughter Julie; one brother, Ernest Simpson; and two sisters: Hazel Addison and Effie Lapaglea.
