Lloyd Allen Abel

Lloyd Abel, of rural Montevideo, died on Wednesday, November 3, 2004 at his home in Havelock Township at the age of 55.

Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, November 6, 2004 at 2:00 PM at the United Methodist Church in Montevideo with Rev. Paul Woolverton officiating.  Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Cemetery.  Visitation will be Friday afternoon and evening with a prayer service at 7:30 PM at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo.

Lloyd Allen Abel was born on October 19, 1949 in Montevideo, MN to Leo and Ruby (Johnson) Abel. He attended the Maynard Baptist Church, where he was active in Sunday School, Bible School and other church activities.  He attended rural schools through the sixth grade and  graduated from Montevideo High School in 1967.  Lloyd began his farming career following high school.  In 1969 he entered the US Army, where he served in Viet Nam and received two purple hearts and other medals. Lloyd had great pride in his country and appreciated the freedoms we have.  When he returned home, he continued with his farming career.  On September 22, 1972 he was united in marriage to Lorrie Lynne Joneson in Milbank, SD.  They joined the Rosewood Methodist Church, where he was baptized.  In 1995 the family joined the Montevideo United Methodist Church.  Lloyd was a lifelong resident of rural Montevideo.  In 1977 they purchased the Abel farm in Havelock Township and raised their family there.  He was an avid fisherman and hunter.  He enjoyed the outdoors, nature, and its solitude.  During the winter he enjoyed snowmobiling and ice fishing.  He was a member of the VFW, American Legion and Disabled American Veterans.  Lloyd loved his family and felt his children and grandchildren were his greatest accomplishment.  They were his pride and joy and he treasured their times together.  Lloyd was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather and friend.

He is survived by his wife, Lorrie; three daughters: Dorrie Novak and her husband Chris of Willmar, MN, Christy Enstad and her husband Rick of Granite Falls, MN and Tracy Abel and her friend Shaun Haggbloom of St. Cloud, MN; two grandchildren: Cody Novak and Bryan Enstad; one brother, Ron Abel and his wife Merri of Montevideo, MN; two sisters: Janet Johnson of Rapid City, SD and Judy Lee and her husband Stanton of Circle Pines, MN; as well as by several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
