Lloyd Arnold Lyngen

Montevideo

Lloyd Lyngen, of Montevideo, died on Saturday, June 1, 2002 at the Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo at the age of 90.

Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, June 4, 2002 at 11:00 A.M. at the United Methodist Church in Montevideo with Rev. Paul Woolverton officiating.  Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Cemetery.  Visitation will be Monday afternoon and evening, with the family from 5:30 - 7 PM and with a prayer service at 6:30 PM at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo.

Lloyd Arnold Lyngen was born on March 11, 1912 in Chippewa County, MN to Peter and Dorthea (Stensrud) Lyngen.  He was baptized and confirmed at Watson Lutheran Church.  He graduated from Montevideo High School in 1930 and attended Morris Agricultural College.  He worked with the CCC in the 30's at Ft. Peck, MT, farmed the family homestead and served in the home guard during WWII.  On February 14, 1943 he was united in marriage to Esther Hendrickson at the Watson Lutheran Church.  He had his own construction business until health concerns forced him to change occupations.  He was head custodian at Brookside Manor for 16 years before retiring in 1982.  He was an active member of the United Methodist Church, belonged to the diabetic club and served on the Board at Brookside Manor.  He enjoyed his grandchildren and great grandchildren.  He was a loving, compassionate man who went out of his way to help others.

He is survived by a daughter, Loretta Garbe and her husband Marvin of Montevideo; three grandchildren: Debra Hubbard and her husband Steve of Clarkfield, MN, Melissa Meisch and her husband George of Altura, MN and Stephen Garbe of Montevideo; three great-grandchildren: Jordan and Hailey Hubbard and Brielle Meisch; two sisters: Stella Goulson and her husband Ted of Montevideo and Verna Finsaas of Ft. Smith, AR; two brothers: Edmond Lyngen and his wife Leona of Montevideo and Palmer Lyngen of Carthage, MO; a sister-in-law, Karen Myers and her husband Jack of New London, MN; a special friend, Gail Werring; as well as by a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Esther in 1985; one brother, Walter; and one sister, Alvina Sundheim.
