Lloyd A. Berg, of the Madison Lutheran Home and formerly of Dawson, died Friday, August 19, 2011, at the VA Medical Center in Minneapolis, at the age of 80. Funeral service was held Tuesday, August 23, at 2:00 PM at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church of Baxter Township with Pastor Willie Rosin officiating; organist, Lu Strand accompanied the singing of "Beautiful Savior", "How Great Thou Art" and "What A Friend.". Casketbearers were Lester Boraas, Dale Borstad, Russell Borstad, Dale Tufto, Arden Anderson, and Roy Anderson. Interment was in the church cemetery with military honors and Taps played by Caryle Larsen. Visitation was for one hour prior to the service at the church. Lloyd Allen Berg was born February 28, 1931, to Ludvig and Gena (Home) Berg on the family farm in Baxter Township. He was baptized and confirmed at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church of Baxter. He was a farm worker for farmers prior to being drafted into the Army in 1951. He was honorably discharged in 1953, after serving a year and 3 months in Korea. He then worked digging and tiling from Montevideo before being employed with two different companies that installed power lines in North Dakota, South Dakota and Iowa. In the mid '70's, he retired as a result of a injury from a truck fire. Lloyd lived in the Montevideo and Dawson areas and after being flooded from his home in Dawson, moved to the Heritage Court Apartments in Dawson. In February of 2011, he entered the Madison Lutheran Home in Madison. On Friday, August 19, 2011, he died at the VA Medical Center in Minneapolis, at the age of 80. Lloyd enjoyed watching TV at all hours, playing cards, and was a novelty collector of many things. He was a member of the VFW and Legion clubs of Dawson. Survivors include his brothers: Thorlen (Ardyce) Berg of rural Montevideo and Roscoe Berg of Willmar; sister, Gudrun "Toots" (Dale) Olson of Madison; nieces, nephews other family and friends. Preceding him in death were his parents; sister-in-law, Sara Jane Berg; and nephews, Eldon Berg and Ronald Borstad.
