Lloyd Goar, of Montevideo, died Thursday December 5, 1996 at the Chippewa Co - Montevideo Hospital at the age of 84.
Funeral services were conducted on Monday, December 9, 1996 at 1:30 PM at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Montevideo with Rev. Leo Deitemeyer officiating. Burial was in the Sunset Memorial Cemetery.
Lloyd Joseph Goar was born on August 22, 1912 in Montevideo, MN to Ernest and Clara (Erickson) Goar. He grew up on a dairy farm north of Montevideo and attended Montevideo schools and graduated from Montevideo High School. He was united in marriage to Diane Jaeck on December 7, 1935. They owned and operated the Black & White Cafe in Montevideo during the late 1930's and early 1940's before Lloyd went into business with his uncle LeRoy Goar in the Goar Co. Dry Goods Store. In the mid 1950's he worked as a representative of the Mobil Oil Co. In the 1960's he managed the Trailways Cafe in Montevideo. In 1970 he obtained his real estate license and was in the real estate business until retiring about three years ago. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Montevideo; was active in the Chippewa County Historical Society, and had been active in Lions Club, Hospital Board, Chamber of Commerce, City Planning Commission, a variety of civic activities, and had been one of the founding group of the Montevideo Country Club.
He is survived by his wife Diane; two sons: Douglas of Spicer, MN and Bradford and his wife Lori of Minneapolis; five grandchildren: Kristen and Mark Drapac of DeForest, WI, 1st Lt. Gregory and Sheri Goar of Travis AFB, CA, Kathryn Goar of Madison, WI, Jennifer Goar of Shattuck St. Mary's, and Joseph Goar of Missouri Military Academy; one great-grandson, Emerson Drapac; one brother, Jim Goar of Sheridan, WY; as well as a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Marilyn Goar; and three sisters: Clara Mickelsen, Winifred Lewis, and Helen Knoben.
