Loren Bergo, of Montevideo, died on November 3, 2001 at his home at the age of 77.
Memorial services will be conducted on Saturday, November 10, 2001 at 1:30 PM at Trinity Lutheran Church in Montevideo with Rev. Michael Briggs officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday. The Anderson Funeral Home of Montevideo is in charge of arrangements for Loren Bergo.
Loren Alfred Bergo was born on May 11, 1924 in Chippewa County, MN to Edward and Ruth (Morrill) Bergo. He was baptized on July 15, 1924 by Rev. Tollefson and confirmed on April 25, 1937 by Rev. Mason at Our Savior's Lutheran Church. He attended country school at District #25 and graduated from Montevideo High School in 1943. He served in the US Army from 1943 - 1946 and served in Europe. On June 3, 1950, he was united in marriage to Elaine Larson at West Bank Lutheran Church. He farmed in Rosewood Township in Chippewa County for many years and lived on his farm until moving to Montevideo in 2000. He gave up farming because of health and worked at Wards, Equity Elevator, J. & O. Grain, Northwestern Life Insurance and was appointed Civil Defense Director in 1972. He retired in 1991 as Director of Emergency Management for three counties. Loren was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, where he served on various boards. He was a life member of the American Legion, a life member and past commander of the V.F.W., a past member of Kiwanis, Police Reserve, Masons, Farmers Union, 4-H leader, Mat Club, township clerk and the American Heart Association for 15 years, serving as state heart fund chairman in 1982. He received the WCCO radio “Good Neighbor” award in 1982. He enjoyed family gatherings, his church and faith, activities at Pelican Lake, his class reunions, flying and softball.
He is survived by his wife, Elaine; four sons: Bruce Bergo and his wife Kim of New Prague, MN, Wayne Bergo and special friend Renee Kennedy of Chatfield, MN, Keith Bergo and his wife Mary of Montevideo, MN, and Arlin Bergo and his wife Heidi of Montevideo, MN; 13 grandchildren; two brothers: Robert “Bud” Bergo of Montevideo, MN and Paul Bergo and his wife Lois of Montevideo, MN; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
