Loren Kostad

Loren Kostad, of West St. Paul, MN died on Friday, June 24th at the Highland Chateau in St. Paul at the age of 82. Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, July 1, 2011 at 2:00 P.M. at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Montevideo with Rev. Marie Eckberg officiating. Interment will be in Sunset memorial Cemetery in Montevideo. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church on Friday. Loren James Kostad was born on February 25, 1929 in Dawson, MN to Albert and Janetta (Grove) Kostad. He grew up in the Marietta area, attending the Garfield school and graduating from Marietta High School in 1947. He served four years in the U.S. Air Force, serving in Panama. On June 9, 1956 he was united in marriage to Dennes Frengen at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Montevideo. They lived in Willmar from 1956 - 1979, where he worked at Central Sheet Metal. While in Willmar, they were members of Calvary Lutheran Church, where he was an usher and sang in the choir. Along with his family, he participated in God's Hams, providing music for nursing homes and events in the Willmar area. They lived in Minneapolis for several years before moving to West St. Paul in 1988. While in Minneapolis they were members of Central Lutheran Church and in West St. Paul were members of St. Stephens Lutheran Church. They worked as apartment managers for many years in West St. Paul before retiring. He was a member of the American Legion and received awards for distinguished service. He enjoyed traveling, playing guitar, fishing, being outside and was a Twins fan. His family was very important to him. He is survived by his wife, Dennes; three children: Ellen (and Robb) Empson of Chaska, MN, Gail Kostad of West St. Paul, MN and Kristopher Kostad of Chaska, MN; two grandchildren: Melissa Smith and Delilah Kostad; a great-grandson, Talon; a sister-in-law, Elnore Kostad of Willmar, MN; and two nieces: Diane Swanson of Cold Spring, MN and LaVonne Schow of Willmar, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents and by a brother, Spencer Kostad.
