Loretta Sheldon of Dawson, MN passed away January 18, 2014 at the Johnson Memorial Home in Dawson at the age of 93.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 22, 2014 at 11:00 AM at St. James Catholic Church of Dawson with Father Craig Timmerman as celebrant. Interment will be at the Catholic Cemetery of rural Dawson.
Visitation will be held for one hour before the services at the church.
Loretta Josephine (Radzik) Sheldon was born November 14,1920 in Sioux City, IA, the daughter of Joseph and Agnes (Swinchoski) Radzik. She graduated from Jefferson High School of Jefferson, South Dakota in 1938 and later with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Wayne State Teachers College in 1941. Loretta was united in marriage to Fred R. Sheldon in 1943. They made their home in Iowa until they moved to the Wheaton, MN area in 1947. Fred farmed and Loretta taught school in Herman, MN and Rosholt, SD before retiring and moving to Dawson in 1986. Loretta was active in horticulture, the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, the Senior Center, volunteer work and her Church.
Loretta is survived by her four children and their spouses: Donald (Janice) Sheldon of Boyd, MN; Fred Kenneth (Diane) Sheldon of Winona, MN; Dorothy (John) Patton of Kirkland, WA; Gerald (Aurora) Sheldon of San Diego, CA and five grandchildren, James Sheldon, Donna (Sheldon) Schmidt, Jennifer (Sheldon) Jacobsen, David Sheldon and Michael Patton. She is also survived by her eight great-grandchildren and sister-in-law, Rosemary (Sheldon) Rustand of Fergus Falls, MN.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Joseph and Agnes Radzik; husband, Fred In 1989; brothers, Paul and Carl Radzik; and sisters, Marie Herriman, Francis Neece, Stella DeBoer and Veronica McKindley.
