Lorraine Worsech

February 25, 1922 — November 28, 2016

Lorraine Worsech, of Montevideo, died Monday, November 28, 2016 at Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo at the age of 94.

Memorial services will be held on Monday, December 5, 2016 at 11:00am at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Montevideo.  Visitation will be held at the church one hour prior to services.  Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Cemetery.

Lorraine (Wiest) Worsech was born in Canby, MN to Emil and Clara (Peterson) Wiest on February 25, 1922.  She graduated with honors from Canby High School.  She relocated to Granite Falls during WWII, taking a position to manage the YMC/Chippewa County Draft Board.  Lorraine was united in marriage to Leonard Worsech on January 11, 1948 in Canby.  They had two children, and made their home on the Wegdahl Corner.

Lorraine worked hard raising her family; working beside Len at Len’s Supper Club and managing their septic and vending machine businesses.  Her specialty was cooking at Len’s and she is remembered for her “good food” at the club.  She collected and read cookbooks, having compiled 2,000 books over the years!  She had currently been in the process of writing a cookbook to share all of her recipes she used at Len’s Steakhouse.

Lorraine loved her family.  Her granddaughters remember her being there for all their events.  She would get down on the floor and play Barbies or hide items in her home for them to find.   Her granddaughters say she was “fiesty and spunky”.

In recent years, Lorraine resided at Luther Haven and stayed active in their events.  She looked forward each year to the Ramsey Buddy Program.  Lorraine enjoyed Thursday open breakfast when she had a special cook making her “sunny-side up eggs”.    She developed many good friendships with other residents and staff.  She was a friend to all.  She was a lifetime member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post 380 of Montevideo.  She looked forward to their annual cancer luncheons.

Lorraine had a strong faith.  For many years Granite Falls Lutheran Church was her home church and she was active in church circles, always baking her specialty cakes to share.  In recent months she joined Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Montevideo.

Lorraine is survived by her children: Chip (Jan) Worsech and Penny Worsech of Montevideo; her grandchildren: Stacy (Brian Lawson) and Annie (Andy Jacobson) ; her great-grandchildren: Maya, age 8 and Charlie, age 1; sister-in-law, LaMore Wiest as well as many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Leonard in 2011, and two brothers, Bill and Jim Wiest.
