Funeral service was held Thursday, April 14, 2011 at 1:30 PM at Grace Lutheran Church with Pastor Kendall Stelter officiating; organist, Deb Lewis accompanied the congregation in singing "Just As I Am", "O Day Full of Grace" and "Just A Closer Walk With Thee. Honorary casketbearers were her grandchildren and the active were Jim Helgemo, Steve Helgemo, Virgil Thompson, Gene Hofmann, Milton Goplin and Dennis Hubbard. Interment was in Grace Lutheran Cemetery. Lorraine Ione (VanKeulen) Swenson was born January 24, 1937 at Marshall, MN the daughter of Paul and Ione (Coon) VanKeulen. She was baptized May 9, 1937 and later confirmed at the Catholic church in Green Valley, MN. She grew up in the Ghent, Green Valley and Minneota area. She was united in marriage with Reynold Swenson November 24, 1957 in Minneota. They made their home in Canby and moved to Dawson in 1962. She worked with early childhood, worked at Johnson Memorial Nursing Home, did in home care for Josie and Noble Bergeson, and also worked for Todd Hilstrom. Lorraine enjoyed shopping, flowers, and the outdoors. She also collected dishes, linens and leaverights (rocks). She especially loved being with her grandkids and she loved her dog, Starr. She is survived by her husband, Swede; three children: Kathy Swenson of Vesta, MN and her special friend Michael Bethune of St. Paul, MN, Loren Swenson of Ogema, MN, and Linda Swenson-Bleess of Onamia, MN; three grandchildren: Chelsey Swenson, Shawn Swenson-Bleess, and Jennifer Swenson-Bleess; and a step-sister, Darlene Robak of St. Cloud, MN. Preceding her in death were her parents, Paul and Ione VanKeulen; her step-mother, Alma VanKeulen; her daughter-in-law, Cathy Swenson; and a step-brother, Leo VanKeulen.
