Lorraine "Sandy" (Sandbakken) Folkestad

Lorraine "Sandy" Folkestad died Friday, September 6, 2019 at Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo at the age of 92.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 11, 2019 at 1:30 PM at Trinity Lutheran Church in Montevideo.  Rev. Jeff Fitzkappes will officiate and interment will be at Sunset Memorial Cemetery.

Visitation will be held for one hour before the service at the church on Wednesday.

Lorraine Alice (Sandbakken) Folkestad was born March 3, 1927 in Dawson, MN the daughter of Paul and Alma (Renslow) Sandbakken.  She was baptized at her grandparents farm home and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Boyd.  Lorraine graduated from Dawson High School in 1945 which is where she got the nickname "Sandy".  She was united in marriage with Gordon Folkestad June 4, 1947 in Dawson.  They made their home in Montevideo except for the 2 years they were in Tacoma, WA.  Lorraine "Sandy" worked several places in Montevideo including Larson Hardware and later was manager of the Yarn Corner until she retired.  They wintered in California and Arizona for many years.  Sandy enjoyed needle work and hardanger.

She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Luann Folkestad of Montevideo; a grandson, Gavin Folkestad of Luverne, MN; nieces and nephews; and many dear cousins.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Gordon in February of 1994; her son, David in November of 2013; and two sisters: Bernice and (Gerald) Fremo and Agnes (Stanford) Storlien; and her best friend and companion of twelve years, her dog Blue.
