Lovina Kanten, of Montevideo, died on Wednesday, February 26, 2014 at Valin Senior Care in Montevideo at the age of 97.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 1, 2014 at 2:30 PM at Big Bend Lutheran Church. Rev. Keith Long will officiate and interment will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held for one hour before the service at the church.
Lovina (Gilsrud) Kanten was born November 29th, 1916 to the late Carl and Kristi Gilsrud in Mandt township of Chippewa county. She was a lifetime member of Big Bend Lutheran church, baptized by Rev. Theo Berge and confirmed by Rev. C.T. Jensen. Lovina was united in marriage on May 22nd, 1935 to Melvin Kanten. They lived their dreams together farming and raising a family of four children. Throughout Lovina's life she was passionate about her family and friends. She prided herself in baking and cooking for all to enjoy. She enjoyed attending the many confirmations, graduations, weddings, and special events held by her family. In later years, Lovina occupied her time crocheting and constructing puzzles, many family members have reaped the benefits of those crafting abilities and have wonderful items to cherish.
She is survived by her children: Diane (Dave) Berven of Milan, MN, Jeanne (Don) Gabbert of Granite Falls, MN, Michael (Twyla) Kanten of Milan, MN and Cheri (Neil) Dvorak of Henry, SD; 14 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and 6 great-great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Melvin in 1996; and her siblings: Joseph Gilsrud, Ernest Gilsrud, Esther Raffelson, Pearl Weckwerth, Florence Raffelson, Agnes Gilsrud, and Clifford Gilsrud.
Lovina will be dearly missed by the many people she engraved herself in their hearts.
