Lucile Willis (Telkamp) Ellingson

October 28, 1905 — April 16, 2000

Montevideo

Lucile Ellingson, of Montevideo, died on Sunday, April 16, 2000 at the Luther Haven Nursing Home at the age of 94.

Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, April 19,2000 at 1:00 PM at Mandt Lutheran Church with Rev. Gregory Gabriel officiating.  Burial will be in the Sunset memorial Cemetery.

Visitation will be Tuesday afternoon and evening and with the family from 5- 7 PM at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo.

Lucile Willis (Telkamp) Ellingson was born on October 28, 1905 to Richard and Mattie (Willis) Telkamp in Mehurin Township of Lac Qui Parle County, MN.  She attended rural schools near Marietta, MN and in 1920 moved with her family to a farm west of Montevideo.  She graduated from Montevideo High School in 1924.  Following her graduation she was employed as a secretary and bookkeeper for an electric shop and wholesale grocery before joining NSP in January of 1940.  As a Home Service Director for NSP, she promoted the use of electric appliances by making in-home visits and conducting “cooking schools” throughout the several counties of Northern States Power’s Southwestern Division.  On September 12, 1958 she was united in marriage to Orville Ellingson.  They farmed north of Montevideo for 29 years before retiring and moving into Montevideo in 1987.  She had a lifelong interest in flowers and gardening.  She was active in community affairs including Montevideo Fiesta, Girl Scouts, Red Cross and the National Farmers Organization.  She was a 54-year member of the National Federation of Business and Professional Women’s club, a life-long member of the Republican Party and an active member of Mandt Lutheran Church.

She is survived by nieces and nephews: Barbara Kaiser of Huntington Beach, CA, John Thompson and Richard Thompson of Minneapolis, MN, Janice Peterson Thompson of Bowie, MD, Paul Peterson of Wellesley, MA and Virginia Peterson Foster of Urbana, IL as well as numerous grandnieces and grandnephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Orville in 1993; one brother, Leon Telkamp; two sisters: Josephine Peterson and Eleanor Thompson; and one nephew, Bryan Peterson.
