Ludwig Shoultz

Ludwig Shoultz, of Montevideo, died on Monday, October 6, 2008 at the Luther Haven Nursing Home at the age of 95. Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, October13th at 11:00 A.M. at the Anderson Funeral Home Chapel in Montevideo with Rev. Donald S. McKee officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to services on Monday at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo. Ludwig Henry Shoultz was born on December 8, 1912 in Litchfield, MN to William and Minnie (Lenhardt) Shoultz. He was the grandson of Ludwig Shoultz, a veteran of the civil war and Erhardt Lenhardt, owner of the Lenhardt Hotel and the Litchfield (Shoultz-Lenhardt) Brewery in Litchfield, MN. He was baptized and confirmed in Litchfield and graduated from Litchfield High School in 1932. He operated a Gambles store in Ivanoe before entering the Army. He served in the Army during World War II, serving as an engineer. In May of 1939 he was united in marriage to Mildred Graves, the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Thor Graves of Montevideo. Lud spent his early married years in the hardware business in Mankato and Ivanhoe and lived in Los Angeles and Salem, OR, where he was a builder. After Mildred's death in 1968, Lud moved back to Montevideo and married Mildred's sister, Evelyn Graves in 1969. He worked as an independent contractor in the Montevideo area until retiring in 1976. After Evelyn's death in 2000 Lud continued to live in the last home he built until moving to Copper Glen and later to the Luther Haven Nursing Home. He was an active member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church and a member of the American Legion and DAV. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting and gardening and was a generous husband, brother and uncle to his entire family. He helped his brothers and sisters build their homes and continued to be a generous and helpful uncle to his nieces and nephews. He is survived by nieces and nephews: Jeanene (Shoultz) Doran of Litchfield, MN, William (and Kathy) Shoultz of Omaha, NE, Delbert Geihl (husband of Mary Karin Brown) of Granite Falls, MN, Julie (and Tom) Nordstrom of Montana, David (and Terry) Brown of Colorado, Darlene (and Kevin) Wimmer of Iowa, Kurt Shoultz and Kenny (and Diane) Shoultz of Litchfield, MN and Kathy (and Chuck) Hoff of Prior Lake, MN; many cousins including Louise Viren Tostenrud and Dorothy Viren Mortar; great nieces and nephews; a special friend, Mary Van Hove; close personal friends Maggie and Don BuBois of Salem, OR; as well as other friends and relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wives, Mildred and Evelyn; two brothers: Leonard and George Shoultz; four sisters: Irene and Vera Shoultz, Charlotte Rosenal, and Mary Brown; a niece, Mary Karin Geihl and a nephew, Joel Brown.
