Luella Nelson, of Montevideo, died on Saturday, November 1, 2003 at the Luther Haven Nursing Home at the age of 94.
Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, November 4, 2003 at 1:30 PM at the Jevnaker Lutheran Church with Rev. Gregory Gabriel officiating. Interment will be in the Mandt Lutheran Cemetery.
Visitation will be Monday afternoon and evening, with the family from 5 - 7 PM and with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo.
Luella Beatha (Septon) Nelson was born on September 13, 1909 in Mandt Township of Chippewa County, MN to Syvert and Ragna (Nokleby) Septon. She was baptized at Immanuel Lutheran Church, confirmed at Jevnaker Lutheran Church and attended rural school at District #64. On June 24, 1932 she was united in marriage to Hilmar Nelson at the Nelson family farm. They farmed in Mandt Township until Hilmar’s death in 1984. In 1989 she moved to Burnsdale Apartments Montevideo and has been a resident of the Luther Haven Nursing Home for the past 2 months. She was a long time member of Mandt Lutheran Church, was a Sunday School Teacher and an active member of Ladies Aid for many years. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, traveling to Norway and flower gardening, especially African Violets.
She is survived by five children: Harland Nelson of Richland, MO, Beverly Moen of Montevideo, Leone Struxness and her husband Gerald of Raymond, MN, Oma Birgenheier and her husband Robert of Sheridan, WY, and Donna Haugen and her husband Lee of Milan, MN; eleven grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; two brothers: Everett Septon of Anoka, MN and T.V. (Tony) Septon of Montevideo; two sisters: Eunice Septon of Montevideo and Helen Denton of Owatonna, MN; a daughter-in-law, Carolyn Nelson of Montevideo; three sisters-in-law: Leona Nelson and Rhoda Nelson of Montevideo and Agnes Olson of Benson, MN; as well as by a number of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Hilmar in 1984; a son, Clifford in infancy; a granddaughter, Julie Nelson; and a son-in-law, Everett Moen.
