Luella Emelia (Hinz) Wehrspann

Luella Wehrspann, of Montevideo, died on Tuesday, May 2, 2006 at the Chippewa County - Montevideo Hospital in Montevideo, MN at the age of 89.

Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, May 5, 2006 at 10:30 AM at Peace Lutheran Church in West Bend, IA.  Interment will be in the Union Cemetery at Ottosen, IA.  Visitation will be Thursday from 6 - 8 PM at the Schelhammer-Harris Funeral Home in West Bend.

Luella Emelia (Hinz) Wehrspann was born on May 15, 1916 in LuVerne, IA to Michael and Amanda (Schmidt) Hinz.  She was baptized and confirmed at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in LuVerne, IA and attended Zion Evangelical Parochial School.   On November 28, 1937 she was united in marriage to Lester Wehrspann in LuVerne, IA.  They farmed in the Ottosen, IA area until his death in 1995.  She lived for a short time in West Bend, IA before moving to Montevideo, MN.  She lived at Brookside Manor for a number of years and has been a resident of the Luther Haven Nursing Home for the past two years.  She was a long-time member of Peace Lutheran Church in West Bend, where she taught Sunday School, was active in Ladies Aid, and was involved in quilting, typing brail for missions.  She enjoyed flowers, gardening and  music, playing both piano and guitar.

She is survived by two sons: Delbert Wehrspann and his wife Shirley of Montevideo, MN and Roger Wehrspann of Montezuma, IA; two grandchildren: Tammy and Jodie Wehrspann; three great-grandchildren: Sara and Emma Johnson and Aidan Sirek; three brothers: Arnold and Walter Hinz of LuVerne, IA and Norman Hinz of Algona, IA; four sisters: Lois Palsic of Osage, IA, Dora Tofteberg and Emma Bratland of Bode, IA and Elsie Abel of Kasson, MN; as well as by numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lester in 1995; two brothers: Clarence and Henry Hinz; and by a sister, Bertha Naefke
