Lyla (Hagen) Ilaug

December 10, 1931 — June 17, 2017

Lyla Ilaug, of rural Montevideo, died Saturday, June 17, 2017 at Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo at the age of 85.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 21, 2017 at 11:00 AM at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church of Baxter. Vicar Matt Danielson will officiate and interment will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be held Tuesday from 5-7:00 PM at Hanson & Dahl Funeral Home in Dawson with a prayer service at 7:00 PM. There will also be visitation at the church for one hour before the service.

Lyla Mae (Hagen) Ilaug was born December 10, 1931 at Echo, MN the daughter of Oscar and Lena (Slettedahl) Hagen. She graduated from Echo High School in 1949 and completed nurses training at Franklin Hospital School of Nursing in Minneapolis. She met her husband Harold Ilaug while working as a nurse at Granite Fall Hospital. They were united in marriage September 27, 1953 at Echo Evangelical Lutheran Church. They lived in Fridley before moving to a farm near Clarkfield in the early 1960's, then to a farm by Wood Lake, and to a farm in Baxter Township in the late 1970's. Lyla worked as a nurse at the Granite Falls Hospital, Eital Hospital, Minneapolis, Belview Nursing Home, and for over 30 years at Johnson Memorial Nursing Home in Dawson. Her kind nature was to care for others and she loved to play the piano. Lyla enjoyed taking care of the yard and her flowers. She was an excellent cook and baker. She loved being outdoors and fishing with her husband Harold.

She is survived by her husband, Harold; two children: Kevin (Wendy) Ilaug of White, SD and Denise (James) Scheer of Cedar Rapids, IA; seven grandchildren: Kelsey (Nic) Ryder, Karin, Danielle, Kevin, Jr., and Neil Ilaug; a great-grandson, Kailur Ilaug Wadell; three sisters: Alvhilda "Sissy" Smith of Granite Falls, Alice Agre of Sacred Heart, and Vivian Ugland of Montgomery, MN; two brothers: Ordean Hagen of Echo and Elwood (Jane) Hagen of Bloomington; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her parents; son, Brian; and four brothers: Leland, Willard, Donald, and Llewellyn "Punky" Hagen.
