Lyle Gilbertson, of rural Montevideo, died on Sunday, January 13, 2008 at Abbott-Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis at the age of 76, surrounded by his family. Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, January 16. 2008 at 1:30 P.M. at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Montevideo with Rev. Marie Eckberg officiating. Interment will be in the Mandt Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday afternoon and evening with the family present from 5 - 7 P.M. and a prayer service at 6:30 P.M, at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo.. Lyle Delos Gilbertson was born on August 12, 1931 in Mandt Township of Chippewa Co., MN to Gerhard and Selma (Falla) Gilbertson. He was baptized and confirmed at Mandt Lutheran Church, attended rural school in District 54 and later Milan High School. On July 19, 1953 he was united in marriage to Ruby Lauritsen at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Montevideo. Lyle farmed the Gilbertson home farm until he retired. He served on the Mandt Town Board for 20 years and also on the District #54 School Board. He was a long-time member of Mandt Lutheran Church, where he served as a Deacon, and was currently a member at Jevnaker Lutheran Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and reminiscing about the "olden days" with his brothers. He especially enjoyed living on his farm and fishing and hunting with his grandsons, Matthew and Michael Krause and his great nephew Aaron Harrell. He is survived by wife, Ruby; daughters: Dawn Krause and her husband Scott of Austin, MN; Robin Gilbertson and her husband Bill Duel and Tracy Kirby and her husband Troy , both of Minneapolis, MN; 7 grandchildren: Matthew and Michael Krause; Elizabeth and Abby Duel; and Taylor, Tory and Thomas Kirby; two brothers: Verdie Gilbertson of Montevideo, MN and Curtiss Gilbertson of Woodville, WI; two sisters: Clarice Olson of Appleton, MN, and Vernice Underthun of Willmar, MN as well as by a number of nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents; a son, Ritchie Lionel Gilbertson; two brothers, Earl and Roy Gilbertson and by a sister, Mildred Armstrong.
