Mabel Flora (Johnson) Gates

Mabel Gates, 99, of Montevideo, died May 3, 1999 at Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo.

Funeral services will be held Friday, May 7, 1999 at 1:30 P.M. at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Montevideo.  Rev. Lois D. Knutson will officiate and interment will be at Sunset Memorial Cemetery,

Visitation will be held Thursday, afternoon and evening at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo and with the family present from 6-8:00 P.M.

Mabel Flora (Johnson) Gates was born March 8, 1900 at Dawson, MN the daughter of Marius and Olivia (Sampson) Johnson.  She was baptized and confirmed at Grace Lutheran Church in Dawson.  Mabel was united in marriage with Leo Gates August 29, 1917 at Dawson, MN.  They farmed in the Dawson and Montevideo area before moving into Montevideo in 1944.  Leo died July 16, 1970.  Mabel moved to Luther Haven in 1996.  She enjoyed crocheting, sewing and spending time with her family.

She is survived by four children: Verna Ketelson and Marvis Ketelson of Montevideo, MN, Russell Gates and his wife Mavis of Albert Lea, MN, and Phyllis Gates of Beverly Hills, CA; one daughter-in-law, Marguerite Gates of Fairbault, MN; 8 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and 7 great-great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Leo; one son, Benton “Bud” Gates; one great-grandson; two sisters: Lucille Sahli and Lyla Weiberg; and three brothers: Sigurd, Jacy, and Clarence Johnson.
