Mabel G. (Johnson) Liebl was born June 13, 1908, to parents Peter and Minnie (Anderson) Johnson in rural Springfield, MN. She was baptized and confirmed at Sundown Lutheran Church in Redwood County. She attended rural school and graduated from the eighth grade.
On May 1, 1929, she was united in marriage to Louie Liebl at Lamberton, MN. To this union nine children were born; a daughter and a son died in infancy. In 1932, she became a member of the Catholic Church.
Mabel and Louie farmed in the Springfield and Sanborn, MN, area until 1952, when they purchased a farm east of Dawson. After Louie passed away in 1965, Mabel lived on the farm, and after fours years, moved into Dawson. In 1987, she sold her home and moved to Golfview Apartments. In 1997, she moved to Lakeville with daughter, Mary, and her husband, Ray Larson. Mabel passed away there on Sunday, May 16, 1999, at the age of 90 years, 11 months, and 3 days.
She is survived by 6 children: Elaine (Swede) Hammerschmidt of Redwood Falls, Leonard (Ione) Liebl, Eugene (Pat) Liebl, twins - Aloys (Janet) Liebl and Alice Schueller, all of Dawson, and Mary (Ray) Larson of Lakeville; daughter-in-law, Ilene Willand of Dawson; foster son, Tom (Pat) Felcyn of Fairbanks, AK; one brother, Ronald (Gladys) Johnson of Redwood Falls; one sister, Irene (Ralph) Skow of Chisago City; 37 grandchildren; 82 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren; other family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Louie; a daughter and son in infancy; son, Armin; son-in-law, Adrian Schueller; two brothers and one sister in infancy; and brother and sister-in-law, Arnold (Annie) Johnson.
She was an avid homemaker and gardener and furnished altar flowers for St. James Catholic Church for many years. She loved crocheting and furnished afghans for the St. James Fall Festival raffle and was active in the Altar and Rosary Society of the church. Louie and Mabel donated an acre of their land east of Dawson for use as the St. James Catholic Cemetery. She was an active Senior Citizen loving music, dancing, playing cards, and fishing.
She will be fondly remembered as a caring and giving woman with a zest for life and an unyielding faith in God.
