Mae Brunkow, 87, of Montevideo, died May 9, 1997 at the Clara City Nursing Home in Clara City.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 13, 1997 at 10:30 A.M. at Calvary Baptist Church in Montevideo. Rev. Paul Welander will officiate and interment will be at Leenthrop Memorial Cemetery near Maynard, MN.
Visitation will be held Monday afternoon and evening at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo with the family present from 6-8:00 P.M. There will also be visitation at the church for one hour before services on Tuesday.
Mae Ruby (Syd) Brunkow was born December 16, 1909 in Hanley Falls, MN the daughter of Carl and Martha (Nymoen) Syd. The family moved to Maynard and Mae graduated from Maynard High School in 1928, Se received Normal Training in St. Cloud and began a teaching career that covered 28 years. Mae taught in rural Chippewa County Schools, the Maynard Schools, and also the Lynd School system. She was united in marriage with Carl Brunkow June 25, 1939 at Maynard, MN. They farmed in the Maynard area until moving to Lynd in 1963 where they owned and operated a small gas station. After her retirement in the late 1970's, they sold their home and station and moved to Montevideo. Mae enjoyed visiting the nursing home and singing for the residents, she did monthly decorations for the nutrition site, and she was a busy lady crocheting for her family and friends. She was active at Maynard Baptist Church and later at Calvary Baptist Church. Mae will always be remembered for her pies, angel food cakes, and brownies.
Mae and Carl were not blessed with children of their own, but they were foster parents to a "son" Clarence Kluver who came to live with them when he was six. She is survived by her husband, Carl; one son, Clarence Kluver and his wife Helen of Sacred Heart, MN; seven grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; two sisters: Verna Head of St. Angelo, TX and Frances Sandberg of St. Anthony, MN; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents; one great-grandson, Thomas; three brothers: Axel, Oliver, and Russel; one sister, Naomi Olson; two nephews; and one niece.
