Marcella Christensen, formerly of Dawson, died on Friday, September 7, 2018 at the Madison Lutheran Home at the age of 97. Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, September 15, 2018 at 2:30 PM at Grace Lutheran Church in Dawson with Rev. Kendall Stelter officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday, September 14th from 5 - 7 PM with a prayer service at 7 PM at the Madison Lutheran Home chapel in Madison. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church.
Marcella Ollegaard (Stempson) Christensen was born on January 4, 1921 in Dawson, MN to Oscar W. And Marie (Klette) Stempson. On July 2, 1921 she was baptized at Riverside Lutheran Church in Dawson. She grew up and attended school in Dawson. On August 13, 1939 she was united in marriage to Russel Christensen in Dawson. She worked as a cashier at the Red Owl grocery store for 36 years and at the Stringer Drug for 6 years. She was a life-long member of Grace Lutheran Church and its predecessors and was active in WELCA, Bible Study and fellowship with church members. Marcella belonged to the VFW Auxiliary for a number of years and could be found selling poppies. She enjoyed dancing, playing cards, embroidery, bowling, baking, lefse making and activities at the Madison Lutheran Home
She is survived by two sons - Ron (Doreen) Christensen of Alexandria, MN and Keith (Ardis) Christensen of Madison, MN; nine grandchildren: Jim (Colleen) Christensen, Julie (Robert) Drake, Jon (Holly) Christensen, Jessica Borden, Robyn (Osman) Janneh, Bryan (Pule) Christensen, Cassy (Nathan) Pederson, Robyn (Andy) Abner and Joshua (Liz) Larson; twenty-two great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Tom Stempson of Minneapolis, MN; a sister, Shirley Natzel of Sacramento, CA; as well as a number of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Russel in 1979; four brothers: Kenneth, Harlan, Oscar and Russie Stempson; and sisters: Beverly Mae Stempson and Genevieve Weinstock.
Marcella will be deeply missed.
