Margaret Martenson Emch, of Maynard, died Saturday, February 5, 2011 at the Woodbury Care Center in Woodbury at the age of 78. Funeral services will be held Friday, February 11, 2011 at 1:00 PM at Granite Falls Lutheran Church in Granite Falls, MN. Rev. John Bjorge will officiate and interment will be at Granite Falls Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 4-8:00 PM at Granite Falls Lutheran Church with a prayer service at 7:30 PM with Anderson Funeral Home of Montevideo in charge of the arrangements. Margaret Josephine (Samuelson) Martenson Emch was born May 31, 1932 at Fargo, ND the daughter of Ernest and Mathea (Hexom) Samuelson. She was baptized and North Pleasant Lutheran Church in Hickson, ND and confirmed at Faith Lutheran Church in West Fargo ND. She graduated from West Fargo High School in 1950 and from Moorhead State Teachers College in 1954. Margaret was united in marriage with James Martenson June 19, 1960 at Faith Lutheran Church in West Fargo, ND. Margaret was a teacher and active in her church from an early age, playing piano and organ. She was a member of the Maynard Presbyterian Church, its Women's group, Presbytery Coordinating Team, and Partners in Faith, Life, and Witness Committee. She was also active in the Lions where she was a recipient of the Melvin Jones Award, the Maynard Garden Club, Chippewa County Historical Society, MN Valley Antique Power And Machinery Association, and had received the Helen Keller Sight Award. Margaret enjoyed gardening, was a Maccray arts booster, a community ed promoter, and on the Community Concert Series Board. Her husband, James died March 6, 2005. She was united in marriage with Richard Emch September 19, 2010 at Heritage Hill near Montevideo. She is survived by her husband, Richard; a son, John Martenson and his wife Deb of Gilman, IA; two daughters: Mary Fontaine of Woodbury, MN and Martha Martenson of Kennebunkport, ME; three grandchildren: Michael and Annika Fontaine and Amber Martenson; one brother, Dr. Erwin (Dr. Alberto) Samuelson of Palos Verdee Estates, CA; as well as by several nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, James; one nice, Karen Perkins; one nephew, Keith Martenson; one granddaughter, Angel Christine Martenson; and one son-in-law, Kevin Fontaine.
