Margaret Evelyn (Wollan) Eiken

Margaret Eiken, of Montevideo, died on Sunday, November 16, 2003 at the Luther Haven Nursing Home at the age of 92.

Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, November 19, 2003 at 10:30 AM at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Montevideo with Rev. Donald McKee officiating.  Interment will be in the Sunset Memorial Cemetery.

Visitation will be Tuesday afternoon and evening and with the family from 6:30 - 7:30 PM at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo.

Margaret Evelyn Eiken was born on July 22, 1911 in Glenwood, MN to Clarence and Anna (Lund) Wollan.  She was baptized at Glenwood Lutheran Church and confirmed at First English Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls, MN.  She graduated from Fergus Falls High School in 1929, attended Park Region Lutheran College and graduated from St. Cloud State Teachers College in 1931.  She taught school for several years.  On August 12, 1937 she was united in marriage to Malcolm S. Eiken at the Glenwood Lutheran Church.  They lived in Faribault, MN for a year, in Kirksville, MO from 1938 - 1942, in Montevideo, MN from 1942 - 1947, Buffalo, NY from 1947 - 1956 before returning to Montevideo in 1956.  She was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church and was active in Ladies Choir and its women’s groups.  She was a member of the Chippewa County Historical Society and the Montevideo Country Club.  She enjoyed traveling, music, reading, flower gardening, birds, dancing, baking, bridge club and a birthday club.

She is survived by three children: Judith Farley and her husband George, Jr. of Naperville, IL, Susan Berndtson and her husband Bruce of Naperville, IL, and Mark Eiken and his wife Bonnie of Montevideo; 6 grandchildren; and 1 great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Mal in 1978; and by a brother, Clarence Wollan, Jr. in infancy.
