Margaret Wanke, 91, of Montevideo died January 13, 1998 at the Redwood Falls Municipal Hospital.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 17, 1998 at 10:30 A.M. at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Montevideo. Rev. Warren Broughton and Rev. Douglas Olson will officiate and interment will be at Terrace Lawn Memory Gardens.
Visitation will be held Friday afternoon and evening at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo with the family present from 7-8:00 P.M. There will also be visitation at the church for one hour before services on Saturday.
Margaret Henrietta Wanke was born September 25, 1906 at Correctionville, IA the daughter of Hans and Johanna (Rohwedder) Ketelsen. She moved with her family in 1913 to a farm near Montevideo, MN and attended school in District 10. Margaret was united in marriage with Christian Wanke May 21, 1924 in Montevideo. They farmed in Lac Qui Parle County before moving into Montevideo in 1934. She was a charter member of the VFW Auxiliary and a long time member of the Degree of Honor. Christian died April 6, 1970 and Margaret moved to the Wabasso Nursing Home in November of 1995. She enjoyed gardening and doing hand-work.
She is survived by three children: Henry Wanke and his wife Martha of Topeka, KS, Jeane Goulson and her husband Roger of Decorah, IA, and Vernida Van Meveren and her husband Dale of Wabasso, MN; 12 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters: Dorothy Wilson of Montevideo, MN and Elsa Koepke of Wabasso, MN.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Christian; four brothers: Louis, George, Walter “Bill”, and Thomas Ketelsen; and one sister, Anita Roggatz.
