Marie Henrietta (Lorenz) Garbe

Marie Garbe, of Montevideo, died in Jesus on October 10, 2004 at the Luther Haven Nursing Home in Montevideo at the age of 92.

Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday,  October 13, 2004 at 11:00A.M. at St. John's Lutheran Church, rural Montevideo with Rev. Ronald Hobbie  officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be Tuesday afternoon and evening, with the family from 6 - 7 PM and with a prayer service at 7 PM  at the Anderson Funeral Home in Montevideo.

Marie Henrietta (Lorenz) Garbe was born on May 6, 1912 in Sparta Township of Chippewa County, MN to Emil and Martha (Weckwerth) Lorenz.  She was baptized on May 19, 1912 and confirmed on October 24, 1926, both at St. Johns Lutheran Church. She graduated from Montevideo High School in 1931.  On February 2, 1936, Marie was united in marriage to Erwin C. Garbe.  They farmed near Montevideo until moving into town in 1983.  She had been a resident of Luther Haven Nursing Home since November of 1999. Marie was a long-time member of St. Johns Lutheran Church in Sparta Township and was involved with Ladies Aid and Women’s Circle.  She enjoyed baking, canning, gardening, doing crafts, quilting, sewing, knitting, and crocheting.  Her life was a witness to her deep Christian faith.

She is survived by four sons: Marvin Garbe and his wife Loretta of Montevideo, MN; Vernon Garbe and his wife Ann of Marshall, MN; Harlan Garbe and his wife Patty of Montevideo, MN and Rolynn Garbe and his wife Rachel of Montevideo, MN; eight grandchildren: Debra (Steve) Hubbard, Melissa (George) Meisch, Stephen Garbe, Lisa Garbe, Sara Garbe, Ruth Garbe, Marie (Dan) Schnabel, and Christian (Iliana) Garbe; and ten great-grandchildren: Jordan and Hailey Hubbard, Brielle and Garrett Meisch, Dominick and Ethan Garbe, and Abigail, Zachariah, Elizabeth and Anna Schnabel.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Erwin in 2001; and a brother, Ted Lorenz.
